The two locations — in Atwater Village (on N San Fernando Rd, close to the LA River) and North Hollywood (Varna Ave) — together house nearly 200 studios in a range of sizes. Small drum rooms, mid-sized practice spaces, and full-band rooms are available, which means you can match your room to your actual setup rather than paying for square footage you don't need.

ABC is not a premium facility. It is not going to impress anyone with its aesthetics or amenities. What it delivers is something more specific: a large, reliable, 24-hour lockout operation where bands have been setting up permanent practice rooms for decades. That institutional reliability has real value in a city where rehearsal spaces have been closing at an accelerating rate.

The Lockout Model

A lockout at ABC means you get a key (or access code) to your specific room, and it's functionally yours for the duration of your lease. Your gear stays in the room. You don't have to load in and out every session. You don't need to book slots in advance or compete with other bands for availability. You show up, you play, you leave.

For bands that rehearse multiple times per week or leave significant gear at their practice space — drum kit, backline, PA — the lockout model eliminates a huge amount of friction. The per-month cost starts to look very reasonable when you factor in the time and effort saved not hauling equipment.

Monthly pricing at ABC starts around $350 for smaller rooms and scales based on square footage. Larger band rooms that can accommodate a full backline and a drum riser can run $700 to $1,000+ per month. Exact pricing requires a direct conversation with their staff, as availability and rates vary between the two locations and by room size.

The Rooms

The rooms are functional and well-worn, which is exactly what you expect from a facility that has been housing working bands for 30 years. Walls are treated adequately for sound isolation — you won't hear neighboring rooms during normal band volume, and your sound won't bother the next room either. The construction is solid rather than acoustically sophisticated: the goal is containment, not recording-grade treatment.

Basic backline is available in some rooms; others are bare and intended for bands bringing their own full setup. Room sizes vary considerably, and choosing the right size for your band configuration matters — a three-piece rock band playing at volume needs a different room than a singer-songwriter running a PA for vocals and an acoustic guitar.

Equipment maintenance and cleanliness are inconsistent across the facility's age and room stock. Newer or recently renovated rooms are noticeably better than older ones. It's worth asking which rooms have been updated before committing to a lease if equipment condition matters to you.

Locations and Geography

Atwater Village (2575 N San Fernando Rd)

The Atwater location sits in an industrial pocket just north of the 2 freeway, with decent parking and a light-industrial feel typical of the neighborhood. It's a practical location for bands based in Silverlake, Echo Park, Atwater, and Glassell Park. From Santa Monica, you're looking at 35-50 minutes on the 10 to the 2, depending on traffic. The Atwater location has been reviewed as recently as March 2026 on Yelp and is actively operating.

North Hollywood (7415 Varna Ave)

The North Hollywood location is larger and has over 60 studios. It's more accessible from the Valley — Studio City, Van Nuys, Burbank — than from the Westside. Parking is available. The December 2025 Yelp activity confirms ongoing operations.

Who ABC Is Best For

What ABC Is Not

ABC is not a high-end facility. It has no amenities beyond the rooms themselves. There is no community programming, no recording capability, no WiFi lounge, no coffee. The vibe is utilitarian — warehouse rows of rehearsal rooms, not a creative campus. For some bands, that's exactly right. For others, the lack of any amenities or community makes a difference in the long-term experience of having a rehearsal space.

ABC is also not ideal for Westside musicians. From Santa Monica, both locations involve a real commute. If you're based in Santa Monica and want the lockout model without the drive, The Recording Club's membership provides essentially the same unlimited-access model with significantly better facilities and wellness amenities — and it's actually in Santa Monica.

How It Compares to Other Lockout Options

In terms of sheer volume and 24-hour availability, ABC has no direct competitor in LA. Pirate Studios offers 24/7 access but bills hourly rather than monthly lockout. SIR Studios Hollywood is a production rehearsal facility at a completely different price point. Mates Rehearsal in North Hollywood is smaller and hourly-based.

If you want a monthly lockout room with 24-hour access in LA, ABC is one of the primary options in the market.
